Huisman-Itrec uses an innovative method of riser storage vertically (see picture) in the columns of the hull of the vessel compared to horizontal storage on conventional drilling rigs. A special Rise handling crane does the moving work. |
The main advantages for the customer:
The Huisman-Itrec designed Riser Handling System allows complete control of the riser during all stages of the operation. |
| Free swinging of the riser is prevented. Meaning that
work can continue in more adverse environmental conditions compared
to traditional storage & handling. The Riser Handling System can
also handle risers that are stored horizontally on deck. The vertical riser storage drums can be mounted inside the columns of the drilling vessel or can be attached to the outside of the columns as separate drums. Either way risers are fully protected from the environment and securely stored. Storage capacity is dependent on the available space in the columns but in most cases is enough to store 7500 feet or more of riser. The vertical riser storage in separate drums is especially suited for retrofitting work on older rigs where space and weight are critical. Providing both extra storage capability and extra buoyancy. |
