The MPT and cranes can be equipped with an active as well as a passive Heave compensation system. They compensate the motion of the vessel and its equipment, so the contact with the seabed ore something attached to it can be very exactly controlled. This works for drilling (weight on the drill bit) as well as for cranes (lowering a load to the seabed or a load to a quay). By employing the Huisman-Itrec patented Downhole Control System a total elimination of the heave effects is possible. |
